Can You Start a Peach Tree From the Seed?

Peach trees can be started from the seed. However, cultivated varieties of peaches will not be true to type. For example, if you plant an Elberta peach seed, the seedling will have different characteristics than an Elberta tree; the fruit may be sweet, or inedible.
