According to Yardcare.com, as a general rule, it is best to plant sod when the weather is cool and humid, as this keeps the sod from drying out. For example, if you live in the southern part of the United States (or similar climates), spring would be the best time to install sod. If you live in the northern states, plant sod in the spring or fall.
