The Best Soil for a Raised Bed Garden

Soil for a raised bed has to drain well and maintain moisture. Use two parts top soil from your yard. Add one part perlite or sand, and one part organic matter such as aged manure, peat moss or compost. Double dig the bed to combine the soil and the amendments.
