In general, any organic mulch spread 1 to 3 inches deep at the base of a cedar hedge will help control weeds and conserve moisture. Mulches that echo the scent and beauty of the plant, such as cedar wood chips or pine needles, make an especially nice touch. Keep the mulch at least 2 inches from the plants' trunks.
