Roses have been used through the centuries as a symbol of friendship, devotion and eternal, undying love. Preservation of rose petals has occurred for centuries and was made popular during the Victorian era of the 19th century. Preserving a rose petal is a simple process that does not require specialized preservation skills.
Pluck the rose petal that you wish to preserve. Be sure to pull gently from the center of the petal so that the ends do not tear.
Lay your rose petal on a flat surface so that it is able to receive some air. Be careful not to allow too much air, as the rose petal may blow away.
Leave your rose petal in place for two weeks. Be careful not to allow any other particles or objects to sit on top of your rose petal during this time, as it can interfere with the preservation process and cause mold or bacteria to develop.
Remove your rose petal from the flat surface when it has been preserved. You will be able to tell when your petal is ready because it will have a nice, crisp feel to it.
Place your rose petal in a Ziploc bag or plastic container for continued preservation.
Store your rose petal in a dark place away from heat or moisture.
