When to Prune Lace Cap Hydrangea?

The lace cap hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla normalis) blooms on "old wood" from the previous year and should be pruned by the end of July. This allows the hydrangea time to set new flower buds before cold weather arrives. Dead flowers can be snipped off at any time.
