Warm-Season Grasses

Warm-season grasses like Bermuda, St. Augustine and Zoysia grow well in the lower region of the United States.

Cool-Season Grasses

Cool season grasses like fescue, rye and bluegrass grow in the states comprising the upper region of the United States, where temperatures are typically milder.

Weed Seed Percentage

All lawn seeds are packaged with some weed seeds present. When buying bags of lawn seed, check the labels carefully and avoid bags that contain more than 3 percent of weeds.

Freshness Date

Just like foods, check bags of lawn seeds for freshness. Check carefully for this date, as the fresher the seeds, the better the lawn will grow.

Annual Lawn Seeds

Annual lawn seeds will provide a temporary turf, lasting one year once the turf has grown. Choose annual lawn-seeds for short-term needs, such as repairing an erosion problem.
