Whatever the occasion, a crown of flowers is sure to delight a girl of any age. Perhaps a little flower girl needs something pretty to complete her ensemble, or perhaps the occasion is as simple as playing dress-up on a summer afternoon. Wander out to your flower gardens and pick the prettiest blooms you can find to make a crown of flowers for a special girl. After hanging the flowers to dry, use them to create a long-lasting flower crown.
Gather approximately 25 to 30 flowers from your own garden or purchase fresh flowers from a florist. Clip the flowers from the plants early in the morning after the dew has evaporated. Choose flowers that are at their peak of bloom. Clip the flowers with at least 6 inches of stem on each blossom.
Separate the flowers into groups, placing the roses together, the daisies together and so on. Wrap a rubber band tightly around the stems.
Find a cool, dry location and hang the blossoms upside down to dry. Allow the blossoms to hang for one to two weeks until all of the moisture is completely gone from the blossoms.
Take the flowers down from their hanging location when they are dry and clip the blossoms from the stems, leaving approximately 1 inch of stem on each blossom.
Twist the two lengths of wire together so that they form one twisted length of wire. Wrap the floral tape tightly around the entire length of twisted wire to cover it. Wrap the white ribbon around the length of wire to cover the floral tape. Glue the ends of the ribbon down with hot glue to secure them.
Bend the ends of the wrapped wire to create loops on the ends of the wire. Bend the entire length of wire into a circle shape to resemble a crown.
Plan the arrangement of the dried flowers along the wire crown. When you have an arrangement you like, begin gluing the dried flowers onto the wrapped wire. Add the dried baby's breath in and among the dried flowers as accent.
Cut the remaining length of ribbon in half and tie a length of ribbon into the individual loops on the ends of the wrapped wire crown.
Wear the crown by tying the two lengths of ribbon together in a tight bow.
