Many regard the rose as the queen of flowers. Perhaps this elite status stems from the definite likes and dislikes of this garden diva.
Rose bushes thrive in sunshine. Plant them where they will get the full sun. Let them rule along a fence, for example, with plenty of room to grow majestically.
Always allow ample space around roses. They do not respond well to crowding, so do not plant rose bushes too close to one another, or to any other plants.
If roses do not thrive in ideal, sunny conditions, it may be because their roots are soggy, and they are complaining silently. Never overwater rose bushes, and do not wet their leaves.
Do not plant rose bushes near sprinkler heads.
Cut away spent roses promptly, preferably at points with five intersecting leaves (not three), which will stimulate further blooms. Trim rose bushes regularly, and ensure that their branches do not criss-cross or puncture one another, which can damage the plant.
Nourish rose bushes with regular fertilizing to keep them happy and healthy. There are granular and liquid fertilizers available with clear instructions.
