A trellis is a useful garden tool that combines wooden pieces into a grid-like shape and is placed directly into the ground for added support for climbing plants. Trellises can be made of any wood type, and customized into any size. The one important attribute for any successful trellis is excellent reinforcement of the trellis pieces.
Determine the desired size and shape of the trellis. The easiest trellis to build is rectangular.
Select the wooden pieces for creating the trellis. Wood can be purchased in long pieces from stores such as Home Depot. Any type of natural wood can be used for creating the trellis.
Use a jigsaw to saw an angled point at the two trellis pieces that will stake into the ground.
Form the desired shape by placing the vertical pieces down first and then the horizontal pieces on top. Nail or staple the wood at each intersection to ensure a sturdy structure.
