Roasting is a delicious use of pumpkins grown in a summer garden. Roasting a fresh pumpkin gives you cooked pumpkin to use in a variety of recipes, from pies to bread to pancakes. Or prepare a pumpkin for roasting and enjoy the taste fresh out of the oven.
Wash the pumpkin and dry it with a paper towel.
Place the pumpkin onto the cutting board and slice it in half from top to bottom. Use a large spoon to remove the seeds and fiber from the center.
Slice the pumpkin into 3-inch wedges, leaving the outer peels on the pumpkin slices. Place the pumpkin slices onto the baking sheet with the pumpkin flesh facing up and the peel on the bottom.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the pumpkin into the warm oven and bake for about two hours.
Remove the pumpkin from the oven and allow it to cool until you can handle it.
Use a spoon to remove the cooked pumpkin from the outer peel. Either chop the pumpkin or puree it as desired.
