How to Make Sachets With Lemon Verbena

Lemon verbena has a soothing scent that is reminiscent of lemon with light herbaceous undertones. This herb is often used in aromatherapy to calm and relax. The soothing scent of lemon verbena can be used in sachets to freshen your laundry, your drawers or your vacuum cleaner bags. The scent of these sachets on pillowcases or pajamas can help you to de-stress after a long day.

Step 1

Dry 1 cup of lemon verbena leaves. To do this, lay fresh lemon verbena leaves flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven on the lowest setting for 2-3 hours or until just dried.

Step 2

Mix the dried lemon verbena leaves with 1 cup of cedar shavings, 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon allspice. Use whole allspice, but crush it very lightly before mixing in to release its scent.

Step 3

Add 10 to 15 drops of your preferred essential oil to the dry mixture, one drop at a time. Stir the mixture as you go, working the essential oil in. Stop when the mixture has a pleasant scent that is distinct but not overpowering. Mint or lemon verbena essential oils are common choices.

Step 4

Fill a cotton tea bag with two to three tablespoons of the mixture. Cinch the top tightly and knot. Continue to fill tea bags until the mixture has been used up.

Step 5

Store the finished sachets in a clean, airtight glass jar and seal the lid until you are ready to use the sachets. Just before using the sachet, rub it between your fingers lightly to crush the herbs inside and release more of their scent.
