What's bugging your plants? Look closely and you just might see common pests like aphids, snails and slugs trying to make your plants their home---or next meal. Take heart and a little precaution with some everyday items found around the house to keep bugs off your plants.
Mix 1 tablespoon of mild dish soap to every pint of warm water. Gently wash down plant leaves with the mixture.
Combine 1 tablespoon of Tabasco sauce to every pint of warm water. Cheyenne pepper or jalapeno juice can be used in place of the Tabasco sauce. Gently wipe plant leaves with the mixture.
Make a 1-percent soap solution by mixing 3 tablespoons of liquid soap and one gallon of water. Spray on plant leaves to control aphids.
Mix 1 tablespoon peppermint soap with water. Liberally wipe leaves with mixture.
Dilute 1/2 teaspoon to 1 pint of water. Dip a sponge into the mixture and gently wipe plant leaves. Use one sponge per plant to avoid cross-contaminating plants.
