You can easily make a small floral topiary as a centerpiece. If you're planning a wedding, small floral topiaries on the tables at your reception can be quite expensive, unless you make them yourself. You can find everything you need to create beautiful small floral topiaries at your local craft store or from online floral retailers. You'll find topiary forms that are ready for you to decorate, but you can also make your own form for significantly less money.
Cut the dowel to measure 12 to 15 inches or longer depending on how tall you'd like your topiary. You'll need at least 3 inches of dowel inserted into the floral ball, and 4 inches inserted into the clay pot.
Spray paint your floral foam ball, dowel and clay pot to coordinate with the colors in the silk flowers and with your table setting. Let the paint dry.
Insert the dowel into the center of the floral foam ball. This is the top of your topiary. Insert a block of floral foam into the clay pot. Insert the other end of the dowel in the center of the floral foam. Your small topiary form is now complete.
Cut the blossoms and 2 inches of stem from the fresh flowers. Cut 5-inch lengths of floral wire and tape each one to a floral stem. If you're using silk flowers, cut the blossoms from the silk flower stems with wire cutters. Leave 2 inches of stem attached to the blossoms. You can also use dried flowers to make a floral topiary; no stems are necessary, just glue them on with hot glue.
Insert the wire stems into the floral foam ball so that the ball is covered with flowers. The base of the blossom should rest against the floral foam.
Tie a coordinating ribbon around the base of the clay pot and glue it in place with hot glue. Cover the top of the pot with decorative stones, marbles or the greenery from the silk flowers. If you use greenery, you may wish to glue the foliage in place with hot glue.
