Landscape Plants Ideas

Adding colorful plants and flowers to your landscape creates an inviting space to enjoy throughout the year. Set aside spaces in your garden and yard to grow your favorite vegetables. Place containers of herbs and colorful flowers under your favorite shade tree for a creative touch. Add height using evergreen plants such as topiary. This lush and green shrub will create a beautiful contrast to flower gardens and walkways.

Plant tall and hearty plants such as New Zealand flax and horsetail in large containers for a dramatic design. Containers can be moved around the landscape to create different designs. They come in a variety of sizes and colors to match a current landscape, making containers very diverse. Place large containers along a garden path and under a large shade tree for a pleasing design. Use small containers and fill them with your favorite herbs so you've got fresh seasonings to use when cooking. Scatter them around your patio or deck for easy access.

Edible Garden

Create a spot in your landscape for raising your favorite vegetables. Plant broccoli and zucchini for making soups and breads. Sweet pea vines will add height to the back of the garden while producing vegetables. Edible gardens add color and charm to an existing garden and can create a beautiful landscape. Place the vegetables between a set of hydrangea bushes or colorful flowers. For an added design, scatter solar lights in your edible garden for an inviting glow to your landscape.

Plant boxwood topiaries around your landscape for a lush and dramatic design. Place them behind a garden as a backdrop or along your walkway as a border. The circular spiral of a boxwood also can be planted in corners and oddly shaped spaces, which can fill out a dead spot. In addition to the boxwood, add creeping vines such as creeping jasmine or thyme. The creepers will grow around the base of the topiary and around the ground to fill out the space.
