Pumpkin - Big Max
Cucurbita maxima
Big max is the 'choice of prefessional pumpkin contestants'. Unlike some big pumpkins that are just big blobs, Big Max has smooth, light orange skin and is perfect for Halloween carving or other holiday decorations. To achieve maximum size, grow one pumpkin per vine and water and fertilize regularly. Excellent for canning or pies.

When to Sow Outside: Spring, 2-4 weeks after average last frost date and when soil temperatures have risen above 60F.
When to Sow Inside: Not recommended except in very short season climates. Start 3-4 weeks before last frost date in individual peat or fiber pots.

Hill Spacing: 6' - 8'
Days to Emerge: 5 - 10
Thinning: When plants have several leaves, thin to three per hill.
