Mexican Hat is also called Red Prairie Coneflower, a close cousin to the Yellow Prairie Coneflower. This midwest native thrives in hot, dry climates and though it prefers a alkaline soil it has been naturalized successfully throughout the US, in all types of soils and climates. It is hardy as far north as zone 3. As a cutflower, it will last in the vase as long as 10 days. A teriffic choice for roadside plantings, wildflower meadows, and slopes. Blooms the first year.
