Blaze Calla - Seeds & Bulbs

Blaze Calla

The 2" diameter flowers are yellow when they first open, and mature to an orangy-red. The dark, attractive foliage is spotted.

Bulb size: 1-3/4" - 2"
Classification: CALLAS
Exposure: sun
Usage: cut flower, pot plant, landscape
Height: 16-22"
Flowering Months: July-Sept.
Planting Time: Spring, when soil warms
Planting Method: Plant the rhizomes 4 inches deep and 12 inches apart.

Lifting Bulbs
Calla bulbs can stay in the ground year round in zones 8 & 9, but in cooler zones you will have to lift your bulbs and store them in a frost-free area over the winter. Callas do well in containers, and container-grown cannas are easy to bring indoors when the weather cools.

Callas make great housplants if a sunny window is available. Plant the tubers in early fall, setting them 3 inches deep in the potting mixture. Keep barely damp until the first shoot appears, then keep moist and feed monthly with a bulb fertilizer. Most callas need a period of dormancy after flowering. Gradually withhold water until the leaves wither away, then start plants into growth again later by moistening the soil.
