This elegant woodland perennial is native to
eastern North America. Leaves are bright blue-green and oak-like.
The 2" wide lemon yellow flowers which are similar to poppies bloom
all through spring and into early summer. The flowers bloom in
clusters on 12 to 18 inch stems.
Plants thrive in shade and prefer a humus-rich, evenly moist soil. They are known to disappear during a dry spell, but will usually return the following spring. They self-sow readily and are a good choice for naturalizing in a woodland setting. or at the base of a woodland setting. Plants can be grown from seed, but are usually purchased as transplants.
