Heringstopf Mit Saurer Sahne (Herring Salad With Sour Cream) Recipe

Step 1

Sauce: Blend thoroughly sour cream, yogurt, lemon juice and sugar.

Step 2

Salad: Peel onions and cut into thin slices. Peel and quarter apples, remove cores and but into thin wedges. Blend onions and apples with sauce. In a dish arrange herring and apple-onion mixture in layers. Cover tightly and marinate in refrigerator for 5 hours. Sprinkle with dill before serving.

SOUR-CREAM SAUCE:
  • 1c Sour Cream
  • 1/2c Yogurt
  • 1/2 Lemon; Juice Only
  • 1/4ts Sugar
SALAD:
  • 2ea Onions; Small
  • 2ea Apples; Medium, Tart
  • 8ea Herring Fillets; Marinated
  • 2ts Dill; Fresh OR
  • 1/2ts Dill weed; Dried
