Spoon Bread Recipe

Step 1

Add cornmeal gradually to boiling water, stirring constantly. Let cool. Add shortening, salt, egg yolks, milk, and baking soda. Beat about 2 minutes and fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into well-oiled baking dish and bake in hot oven (435 F) about 40 minutes. 6 servings.

  • 2 1/2c Boiling water
  • 1 1/2ts Salt
  • 2 Eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2c Sour milk
  • 1ts Baking soda
  • 2tb Melted shortening
