Skillet Cornbread Recipe

Step 1

Sift together dry ingredients. Combine eggs, buttermilk, and water. slowly stir into cornmeal mixture just until dry ingredients are moistened.

Step 2

Melt shortening in a 9 inch cast-iron skillet in a 400 degree oven until very hot. Pour batter into hot skillet. Bake at 425 for 35 minutes or until lightly browned.

  • 2c Cornmeal
  • 2ts Baking powder
  • 1/2ts Baking soda
  • 2ts Salt
  • 4 Eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2c Buttermilk
  • 1c Water
  • 1tb Shortening
