How to Plant Fuschia Seed

Fuschia plants are native to South America and are known for their dark green foliage and colorful blooms. These plants are commonly grown in moist gardens as shrubs. They require little care to look their best and always be hanging full of their one-of-a-kind blooms. Planting fuschia seeds can easily be done at home with little effort, and within a few weeks, you will have fuschia plants growing all around your home.

Step 1

Purchase fuschia seeds at your local garden specialty store or plant nursery.

Step 2

Soak the fuschia seeds in water 24 hours before planting. This will help soften them and allow them to soak up some water before they are planted.

Step 3

Fill a 6- to 8- inch pot (or more then one pot, depending on how many seeds you intend to plant) with moisture-retaining potting soil. Thoroughly soak the potting soil in the pots with water.

Step 4

Add a think layer (about half an inch) of sand on top of the potting soil and moisten it with water.

Step 5

Place the fuschia seeds (one package of seeds per pot) into the sand, and press them into the sand. Rake sand over the top of the seeds, water until the sand is moist and place into a greenhouse if available. If not, place the planting containers indoors in an area that receives full sun for most of the day. The seeds will germinate between two weeks and three to four months, with an average time of 30 days.
