Pomegranate is one of those foods touted for reducing the risk of heart disease. It has an anti-clotting effect similar to aspirin and also stops LDL cholesterol from oxidizing, preventing hardening of the arteries. Pomegranate is rich in antioxidants, which play a role in preventing heart disease, cancer and premature aging. Although it is not clear exactly how much pomegranates do, they do seem to make a difference.

Pomegranates may have benefits in treating many different conditions. It is being tested for its effects on prostate cancer, diabetes, lymphoma and even the common cold. All of these studies are currently underway, and pomegranates have not yet been conclusively proven to help all of these conditions. They combat aging and heart disease and taste delicious, so any other discovered benefits will make the pomegranite a very healthy choice.
