How to Make Herbal Mosquito Repellant

There are many herbs that function as mosquito repellents. Using their essential oils and diluting them in base oils or base lotions can make effective and safe mosquito repellents for your personal use.


Mosquito Repellent Lotions and Oils

Step 1

Select one or a combination of Essential Oils that have mosquito repellent properties.

Step 2

Put one cup of base oil or base lotion in a bowl.

Step 3

Add recommended amount of drops of selected essential oils to the base oil or base lotion.

Step 4

Stir well.

Step 5

Put lotion or oil into a bottle and place cap on for a good seal.

Step 6

Use as needed.

Tips and Warnings

Mosquito Repellent Herbs include : anise, soy bean, geranium, lemon, eucalyptus, catnip, rosemary, elderflower leaf, mugwort, fennel, celery, birch, citronella, clove, fever few, penny royal, tansy, lavender and thyme. Witch Hazel has also been used for repellent properties. Avoid getting any lotion or oil on open wounds or eyes. Make sure to use the proper amount of essential oil for the amount of base. Using more than is recommended can cause irritation to your skin.
