Step 1

Cut a rectangle 18 inches wide by 6 inches long from a red piece of foam. Cut 6 holly leaves and three stockings from green foam. You will be making stockings for each person in your family. Cut out white foam to look like the fur at the top of the stockings. Cut a small strip of ribbon to use as a loop to hang the stockings.

Step 2

Write each person's name on the white foam with a fine point permanent marker. Glue one white foam piece to the top of each stocking. Decorate each stocking with embellishments. You can use other foam to cut out Christmas trees, snowflakes or snowmen. Use glitter or jewels to make each one special to the person whose name is on it. or have them decorate their own stocking. Glue the small strip of ribbon on the back of the heal side of the stocking in a loop.

Step 3

Glue the holly leaves in groups of two. On one corner of the rectangle put two holly leaves with the bottoms together, then two in the middle and two on the other side. Write the family name on the rectangle, centered below the holly. Example: The Joneses.

Step 4

Under the family name, poke a 2-inch brass fastener through the rectangle and pull it back out. You will need to make as many holes as you have stockings. Put the loop of the stocking by the hole and push the fastener through, catching a piece of the loop. Pull apart the fastener on the back tight to keep the stocking in place.

Step 5

Cut a 22-inch piece of ribbon and glue the ends to the back of the rectangle, one end on each side, to hang your door hanger. Let the glue dry for about an hour and it should be ready to hang.
