How to Make Holiday Bookmarks

Just as there is a book for every season, there is a bookmark for every season too. This is a fun and easy project that the whole family can get involved in. It's also a great way to use those Thanksgiving and Christmas cards you just don't want to throw out. These bookmarks can be very serious or seriously silly, depending on your liking. These are extremely inexpensive, so make a bunch and give them away for gifts to teachers and the librarian. They also make a great addition to your gift wrapping.

Make Paper Holiday Bookmarks

Step 1

Cut out pictures or special sayings from holiday cards that you like. Look through craft magazines for pictures of finished Halloween and other holiday crafts. Cut out pictures for whatever holiday you're working on.

Step 2

Cut a piece of card stock 1 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches long. Glue your picture on to the top section of the card stock. Write out your favorite saying or use wording from the card on the bottom section. Use a fine point marker or gel pen to write out your saying.

Step 3

Laminate the piece once you have everything on it you want. If you don't have a laminator, you can have it done at a business supply store. You can also do more than one at a time. Just make sure you keep them at least 1 inch apart from each other.

Step 4

Punch a whole in the top center of the laminate. Put the loop of the tassel through the hole and back around the tassel. Pull tight.

Make Craft Foam Holiday Bookmarks

Step 1

Cut a piece of foam 1 1/2 inches wide by 7 inches long. Cut out decorations for your bookmark, like Christmas trees, leaves or pumpkins for fall and Halloween or a cross for Easter.

Step 2

Glue your decorations on the bookmark. You may want to use permanent markers to draw lines on the pumpkins or balls on the Christmas tree to dress it up. Write your favorite saying or a recipient's name on a section of it with a permanent fine point marker.

Step 3

Punch a hole in the top and put a tassel rope through the hole. Pull the tassel through the loop of the rope and tighten.

Tips and Warnings

If you don't have any access to a laminator, you can use clear contact paper but take your time because it's a little difficult to work with.
