Lunch Box Ideas for Husbands or Boyfriends

Brown-bagging lunch is a cheaper, healthier alternative than eating at a local fast food restaurant. It's not too difficult to make a lunch for children, who don't usually mind sandwiches and crackers every day, but husbands and boyfriends will surely get tired of that menu. Luckily, there are plenty of alternatives to get you out of the peanut-butter-and-jelly rut.

If the man in your life is tired of peanut butter and jelly and cold-cut sandwiches, try a BLT or a tuna sandwich. Change your sandwiches up with a wrap; spread a whole wheat tortilla with light mayonnaise or cream cheese, and layer on the toppings. Rolls and pita bread provide a welcome change from sliced bread as well.

Your husband or boyfriend might not be very keen on salads for lunch, but they are a quick and healthy option. Include plenty of chicken, turkey, or ham; add chopped boiled eggs, grated cheese, croutons, sunflower seeds and other toppings. Keep the dressing on the side. A toasted bagel or a roll is a good way to round out the meal.

Some men avoid leftovers at all costs, but if you change the food up, they may never notice. Use leftover taco toppings to make nachos that can be quickly heated in the microwave. Shred your leftover roast beef, chicken, or pork, add a little barbecue sauce, and stuff it all into a roll. If your husband or boyfriend doesn't mind leftovers, cook a little extra the night before at dinner time and pack it up for the next day.

In the cooler months, who wouldn't want a nice cup of hot soup at lunch time? Get out that thermos and fill it with some nice hot soup or chili, either from the can or homemade. Some companies make soups that are already portion-sized and in microwaveable containers. Pack up a piece of fruit and some crusty bread, and you're all set.

Pre-Packaged Meals

TV dinners used to be a staple in the evening, but now they are a fantastic option at lunch time. You can find all sorts of microwaveable options in the refrigerator case at your local grocery store. Many of these are low-fat and low in calories. If your boyfriend or husband loves pizza or burritos, go for some of those too.
