How to Make Raw Food Bacon

Overview

A raw food diet is a plant-based diet that promotes uncooked and unprocessed foods, such as sprouted grains, organic fruits, vegetables and nuts. Made from eggplant and prepared without heat, raw food bacon is a delicious bacon substitute that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch or dinner on a raw food diet.

Step 1

Slice eggplant into thin slices and sprinkle with salt. Cover and allow to set for two hours. This process will soften eggplant and add "salty" bacon flavor.

Step 2

Blend remaining ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Place eggplant in between double paper towels and press out excess moisture.

Step 3

Pour marinade into medium size bowl. Place eggplant into marinade.

Step 4

Pour eggplant and marinade into a zip-top bag. Remove all air from zip-top bag and close. Allow to set for 45 minutes.

Step 5

Place individual eggplant strips onto dehydrator tray and dehydrate for 24 to 36 hours or until crispy.
