The San Francisco Bay Area is the metropolitan area surrounding San Francisco Bay in Northern California. It is composed of cities and towns in over nine counties. There are a number of raw food restaurants in the city of San Francisco City and a few more in other parts of the Bay Area. Most people who prefer to eat raw or live food do so because they believe these are healthier.
The first of five Café Gratitudes opened by environmentalists Matthew and Terces Engelhart is on 20th and Harrison in San Francisco. The menu in Berkeley is exactly the same. They call their restaurants "live food" cafes, and each item in their menu consists of two names with a short description of what it is. For instance, an item under Juices is named I Am Healthy and Green Juice, which is kale, celery, apple, and ginger. Under Desserts, there is I Am Perfect and Pecan Pie, which is pecan butter-date filling in a macadamia nut crust.
