How to Cook Brown Rice in a Microwave Rice Cooker

If you have a microwave rice cooker, don't be afraid to use it for cooking brown rice. Although it takes a bit more liquid, the process is basically the same as preparing white rice, and the brown rice will turn out beautifully. The magic of a microwave rice cooker is that the brown rice will never stick to the pan or scorch,

Step 1

Put 2 1/2 cups of brown rice in the basket of the microwave rice cooker. Add enough water to cover the brown rice, and stir to clean the rice.

Step 2

Pour the water out of the basket, pouring slowly so the rice stays in the basket. Don't worry about removing every drop of the water.

Step 3

Pour 4 cups of liquid into the basket, and stir it with the rice. The liquid can be water or beef, vegetable or chicken broth.

Step 4

Put the lid on the microwave rice cooker, and tighten the cover by securing the clips. Put the cooker into the microwave. Cook the brown rice for 14 minutes, and don't remove the lid until the end of the cooking time.

Step 5

Check the brown rice to see if it is ready to serve. If it's still a bit firm, put the lid back on, and cook it for an additional 2 to 4 minutes. If necessary, add a bit more liquid. This recipe makes enough brown rice to serve four people.
