How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter (Recipe)

Making your own natural peanut butter puts you in charge of the ingredients. Made from wholesome roasted peanuts and peanut oil, homemade peanut butter is a great alternative to commercial products. Not only is it fresh right from your own kitchen, it is chemical and preservative free as well. You may think that making your own would be messy and complicated, but it is surprisingly easy and makes a great project for involving your kids.
Prepare the peanuts by shelling, if you buy them in the shell, or by removing any pieces of papery chaff from the peanuts.
Place 3 cups of shelled peanuts in a blender and add 1 tsp. of peanut oil. Blend on medium speed until the peanuts are finely blended and begin to form a soft ball.
Stir down with a wooden spoon and add the remaining 3 cups of peanuts and 2 tsp. of peanut oil. Blend until smooth and spreadable. Adjust the amount of oil to get the consistency you desire. Add salt with the last addition of oil, if preferred.
Spoon into a jar or container. Seal and store in the refrigerator.
