How to Make Candied Popcorn

Overview

Reminisce about the warm, summer days at the county fair with delicious candied popcorn, which is easy to make at home without running to the store for fancy ingredients and is perfect for a family gathering, a picnic or just as an afternoon snack. Personalize your popcorn by adding your favorite ingredients, such as chocolate candy, nuts or even dried fruit.

Step 1

Pour the popped popcorn into a large bowl, and place it inside the oven on warm.

Step 2

Butter the bottom and the sides of a large saucepan, or coat them generously with cooking spray.

Step 3

Place the sugar, corn syrup and water into the saucepan. Heat on medium high until the candy mixture begins to boil. Stir often to dissolve the sugar.

Step 4

Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the saucepan. Turn the heat down to medium and continue to boil the candy until the temperature reaches 300 degrees. Remove the thermometer from the saucepan, and remove the saucepan from the heat.

Step 5

Stir the vanilla and food coloring into the candy. Remove the popcorn from the oven. Drizzle the liquid candy over the popcorn, and sprinkle with salt. Combine the mixture using a wooden spoon, and then allow it to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 6

Break the popcorn apart using your hands, and then serve immediately or store in plastic zipper bags.
