A knotted cotton cord necklace is simply a necklace that is constructed of knotted cotton cord. The primary knot used to create these necklaces is the square knot. Because this necklace is constructed primarily of knots, once you master the technique of making square knots, you can make a knotted cotton cord necklace.
Measure and cut three strands of 8- to 12-in. cotton cord.
Even up the strands, then fold them in half to create a loop at one end. Tie an overhand knot around the loop to hold it in place. (Six strands should now come from the bottom of the knot because you folded the strands in half and tied them.)
Begin creating square knots. Create a square knot by taking the far right strand and passing it over the middle strands and under the far left strand (leave the strand loose so you create a loop on the right side). Then pass the far left strand under the middle strands and up through the loop created by the right strand (make sure you leave the left strand loose to create a loop on the left side just as you did with the right side). Pull the right strand up through the loop on the left side, then pull the two strands tight to complete and tighten the square knot.
Continue this process of knotting the cotton cord to finish making your necklace
Tie the end strands into an overhand knot to hold your necklace in place when you are finished, and secure your necklace to your neck by pushing the overhand knot at the end through the loop you created on the other end in Step 1.
