Homemade Protein & Fiber Microwave Bars

Making a homemade protein and fiber microwave bar offers many benefits. First, you can save a lot of money by making your own bars rather than buying them; second, you can avoid using lots of unhealthy additives and preservatives; third, you can customize the bar based on your unique tastes; and fourth, you can quickly microwave your own homemade protein and fiber bar whenever you're in the mood for a nutritious snack.

Pick Your Ingredients

Choose a mix of ingredients based on your tastes and preferences. Some common ingredients that you may find in protein and fiber bars include oatmeal, wheat germ, oat bran, peanut butter, whey protein powder, soy protein powder, honey, agave nectar, sugar, Splenda, Truvia, milk, raisins, almonds, cinnamon, pudding, dried fruit, flaxseed or egg whites. Many people have allergies or reactions to certain products like wheat or nuts, so choose your ingredients carefully and always read the food label so you know what you're getting. For an easy and healthy protein and fiber bar, pick the following ingredients and amounts: 3 cups organic oatmeal; 1 1/2 cups organic peanut butter; 3 cups whey protein powder; 1 cup shaved almonds; 1 1/2 cups agave nectar; 1 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon.

Combine Your Ingredients

Combine the agave nectar and peanut butter together in a small bowl and microwave for about one minute, or until it is warm and has a more liquid-based consistency. Add the organic oatmeal, whey protein, cinnamon and almonds together in a separate bowl and set aside. Combine all of the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl, using your hands to mash everything together until you have a consistent texture. All the whey protein and oats should be mixed evenly at this point.

Refrigerate the Bars

Spray a large baking pan with organic cooking oil or grease with your own olive or canola oil and then add the mixture evenly into the pan. Once you have a nice, even layer of the protein and fiber bar mixture, place it into the refrigerator uncovered and let it chill for at least an hour.

Cut, Serve and Store the Bars for Later Use

Cut your homemade protein and fiber bars after letting them chill in the refrigerator. Measure out around 15 bars, which comes out to three rows and five columns. Serve your protein bars by placing them in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm them and serve with a cold glass of milk or store them for later use. Store them in the refrigerator in plastic bags or wrap or in the freezer, where they'll last for a longer duration of time and pop them in the microwave when you're ready to eat one.
