Overview

The kidneys are responsible for filtering toxins from the blood. Because of this, it is quite important to ensure that they are kept as healthy as possible. One way to do this is to cleanse them with natural juices. Drinking these juices can flush the kidneys clean, dissolve kidney stones and help to maintain full-body health.

Cranberry

Cranberry juice is a well-known remedy for urinary problems. A recipe for an effective homemade cranberry juice is one cup cranberries, a tablespoon of water, and a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice combined in a blender. This mixture is better than the prepared cranberry juice in the market because there is no added sugar and a higher concentration of cranberries.

Grape

Eight ounces or more of fresh grape juice is also healthy for the kidneys. The juice should be made from fresh grapes in the blender or juicer without any sugar or water added.

The Lemonade Diet

Two tablespoons of freshly squeezed, organic lemon or lime juice, combined with eight ounces of purified water, two tablespoons of organic, Grade B maple syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper is a well-known kidney cleanser. Used in conjunction with a 10- to 40-day fast, it is an integral part of the Master Cleanse, or "Lemonade Diet", as outlined by Stanley Burroughs, a health guru of the early 20th century. Make this "lemonade" fresh and consume it six to twelve times a day while fasting, drinking it whenever you get hungry. Burroughs recommends eating no other food and drinking no other drink except water while on the fast. Many natural healing proponents have endorsed this method.

Watermelon

Aside from having nutritional value, containing potassium and vitamins A and C, watermelon is a bountiful source of liquid that helps flush the kidneys. Watermelon can be blended into a juice, seeds and all to maximize diuretic properties, or sliced and eaten fresh.

Other Juices

According to the Hippocrates News, a magazine published by the Hippocrates Institute, a natural-healing resort, juices made from various other fruits and vegetables are also good for kidney cleansing. These include alfalfa sprouts, asparagus, beets, beet greens, cabbage, cabbage sprouts, celery, cucumbers, lamb's quarter, wheatgrass, apples, cranberries, melons, papaya and strawberries. All4NaturalHealth.com adds to this list spirulina, spinach, blueberries, nettles, parsley, ginger, millet, barley, tofu and string beans. No matter which fruit or vegetable you use for juicing, it should be organic for maximum health benefit. Also, all the experts agree that consuming large amounts of water is a good way to cleanse the kidneys, regardless of other dietary practices.
