Gravy is a condiment that goes well with almost any food. It can be used on sausage, biscuits and bacon at breakfast time, on rice at lunch, and on baked potatoes, mashed potatoes and steak at dinner. Nothing is better than homemade gravy. With six simple ingredients that can all be found in the average food cabinet, making your gravy at home is also economical.
Melt the Crisco shortening in the skillet. Make sure the stove top is on medium-high.
Add flour, ¼ cup of onions, and mix and fold it into the grease after the grease is hot. Continue to mix the gravy together, and add salt and pepper.
Cook the gravy on medium heat until golden brown. Stir the gravy continually until brown.
Add 2 cups of cold water after the gravy turns brown. Bring the gravy to a boil until thick, and continue to stir. Serve the gravy over your favorite meals
