How to Make Your Own Fruit Baskets

Tired of bringing green bean casserole or a veggie tray to potluck parties? A homemade watermelon fruit basket is a decorative offering to bring to a bridal or baby shower, or any other kind of party. This dish doesn't take too long to make, but it will look like you spent hours on it.

Step 1

Cut off a small sliver from the outside of your watermelon to create a flat side for the bottom of your basket, if your watermelon doesn't already have a flatter side.

Step 2

Draw a line around the watermelon slightly above the middle, but leave a gap of a few inches on each end of the watermelon; this will be for the handle.

Step 3

Draw lines connecting the ends of the two lines that you just drew across the top of your watermelon. This outlines the handle and the actual basket.

Step 4

Cut the two wedges out of your watermelon that you just outlined. You should have a basket shape now.

Step 5

Cut a zig-zag pattern along the edges of the handle and the top of your basket to make it more decorative.

Step 6

Scoop the inside of your watermelon out with a melon baller, but don't scoop into the white part of the melon. Scoop any excess watermelon out with a spoon.

Step 7

Scoop out a cantaloupe with the melon baller.

Step 8

Rinse off the strawberries, blueberries and grapes and mix them together in a bowl along with the watermelon and cantaloupe balls. Place all fruit in your basket.
