Easy Recipes for a Block Party


Block parties are a great way to get to know your neighbors. Unsure what to bring? Here are three easy recipes sure to please everyone in the neighborhood.

Mini Cheese Burgers

These little burgers are full of flavor and sure to please kids and adults! Double or triple the recipe if you expect a lot of hungry party goers. Ingredients: 1 1/4 pounds ground beef or turkey 1 medium onion, diced 1 egg 3 tbsp. bread crumbs 2 tbsp. steak sauce 1 tbsp. grill seasoning 1 tbsp. yellow mustard 10 dinner rolls 10 slices cheese 10 slices of lettuce Directions: Wash your hands. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Roll the meat into balls then flatten into thin patties in your palms. Repeat until you have 10 mini patties. Fire up the grill and cook each patty two to three minutes, flip and add cheese, then cook for another two to three minutes. Serve with a slice of lettuce on the dinner rolls. You can also bake these burgers at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 minutes, adding cheese halfway through.

Smokey Maple-Baked Beans

No block party is complete without baked beans. This recipe is delicious and whips up effortlessly. Ingredients: 1 pound bacon 2 28-ounce cans of vegetarian baked beans 1 12-ounce bottle chili sauce 1 sweet onion, sliced thin 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar 1/2 cup pure maple syrup 2 tsp. liquid smoke 1/4 cup yellow mustard Directions: Preheat oven to 330 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Crumble bacon with clean hands and set aside. Cook onion in bacon grease until golden, about 2 minutes. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients together, stirring to evenly distribute the ingredients. Transfer to a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish and bake 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Triple Chocolate Brownies

Rich and chocolaty---the perfect dessert for a crowd of all ages and taste preferences. Ingredients: 1/2 cup canola oil 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 cup flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 cup chocolate or peanut butter chips 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or more chips Store-bought chocolate icing Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine oil with sugar, eggs and vanilla. Transfer to a large bowl and beat in remaining ingredients one at a time (cocoa, flour, salt and baking powder). Stir in chocolate chips and nuts and pour into a prepared square baking pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to fully cool and then spread a thick layer of chocolate icing over the top.
