How to Make Collards

Overview

Freshly cooked collards are an ideal side meal to the perfect holiday occasion like Thanksgiving or Christmas or even for a regular family meal. If collard greens are cooked properly, they will be tender and juicy. Collards are a healthy and great way to get in your serving of vegetables for the day. Preparation time takes only 15 minutes maximum.

Step 1

Wash the collard greens thoroughly. Gather them all together and chop them into medium-sized slices, leaving off the ends of the stems.

Step 2

Fill the pot halfway with water. Bring the water to a boil on high heat.

Step 3

Add a pinch of salt, a ham hock and the fresh greens to the pot, and cover. Let cook for about 15 minutes. Add a dash of hot sauce for additional flavor and serve.
