How to Make a Green Bean Cheese Casserole

The green bean casserole is a classic American dish widely served as a side at Thanksgiving or Christmas. Use Cheez Whiz Cheese Dip or Velveeta cheese for easy, even melting of the cheese sauce. For a sassy Southwestern flavor, use Cheddar cheese and salsa (choose mild, medium or hot), or salsa con queso instead of the regular cheese. This recipe takes 5 minutes to prepare, and should serve six when complete.

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2

Lightly spray the inside of a deep casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 3

Mix all ingredients but half of the onions in the casserole dish.

Step 4

Bake uncovered for 30 minutes or until edges are brown. Add the rest of the fried onions to the top of the dish, and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Serve hot.
