How to Make a Santa Face Out of a Heart Cake Pan

Overview

The holidays are a great time to enjoy the company of family and friends, and this usually involves enjoying plenty of food. If you are tired of taking the same dessert to your get-together, year after year, then try making a Santa face cake. You don't need any special tools or equipment, just a heart-shaped cake pan which is readily available in any cookware or department store.

Step 1

Bake the cake according to your directions. Whether it is homemade or a mix, white or chocolate doesn't matter. Allow the cake to cool.

Step 2

Remove the cake from the pan by flipping it upside down onto a large platter or foil-lined cookie sheet. Make sure the heart is upside down, so that the bottom of the heart is actually in place to be the tip of Santa's hat.

Step 3

Cover the entire cake with white frosting. Using a Popsicle stick, draw a line across the cake, about 2 inches down from the tip. This is going to be the white pompom on the tip of Santa's hat.

Step 4

Go down about 4 inches from the pompom line and draw another line across the cake. This will be the bottom of Santa's red hat. Between those 2 lines, sprinkle a lot of red sugar crystals. This is the hat fabric.

Step 5

Add one drop of red food coloring to 1/2 cup of frosting. This will make pink frosting. Spread some of the frosting very thin at the center of the cake. This will be the background area for Santa's face.

Step 6

Put two black candies in position for the eyes, one red or orange candy in position for the nose and one red candy in position for the mouth. Be sure to leave space between the nose and the mouth, as you will be filling this in with extra frosting for Santa's moustache.

Step 7

Fill the pastry bag with white frosting, and squeeze to make sure it comes out of the tip properly. You can use any type of pastry tip you desire, although a tip that makes a thicker line will work faster.

Step 8

Start at the tip of the hat, and fill the pompom area with thick, white frosting. Go to the bottom of the hat, and use the frosting to make the bottom hat trim. Now, using the bag and more white frosting, make eyebrows above the candy, and a moustache. Any parts of the cake not already decorated get covered with frosting as Santa's hair and beard.

  • The measurements in steps 3 and 4 may need to be adjusted, depending upon the size of your cake pan.
