Valentine's Day is a day that allows you to share love with everyone in your life, even the little ones. When choosing a gift for a 5-year-old, go the traditional route and buy candy, or choose another gift that can help reduce the amount of a gift you might give to your dentist in the form of future fillings.

Miniature Candy Dispensing Machines

Purchase a small version of the candy machines that are commonly found near the exits of grocery stores. These smaller versions typically hold one to two bags of candy. There are some that dispense candy any time the handle is turned, and others that require a quarter. Give your 5-year-old a quarter after dinner each day that he has completed all his chores and behaved well. This will turn her Valentine's Day gift into two presents, candy and a way to save money.

Jewelry Kits

Purchase a jewelry kit for your 5-year-old, this will give the child a gift and something you can do together. These kits come with strings and small decorative beads that the child threads onto the strong to form her own necklaces, bracelets and earrings. In addition to beads, there are kits that have candy that your child can thread onto the stream to create jewelry that doubles as a candy treat.

Pez Dispensers

Pez dispensers offer both entertainment and candy for your five year old. There are a large variety of characters that appear on Pez dispensers. Your child can start his own collection of dispensers of his own favorite characters. Not only do they come with different characters on them, but they also come in different sizes and functions. There is even a Pez dispenser that is 3 feet long and one that plays sounds each time it dispenses candy.

Puzzles

Not all Valentine's Day gifts have to be edible. Purchase a Valentine's Day-themed puzzle for your 5-year-old as a gift. These puzzles come in shapes, such as hearts, or feature pictures of candy to piece together. Your child can enjoy the sweetness of the holiday without the risk of cavities.

Stuffed Animals

Stuffed animals range in design from animals to cupids. They can be designed to have a special message sewn onto the stuffed animal or the animal's clothes. There are even stuffed animals that you can custom order with a recorded message of your choice for the 5-year-old; it can even be in your voice.
