How to Make Valentine Boxes

Valentine boxes are part of a tradition that has been around for generations of school-age children. Each year, children make Valentine boxes to take to Valentine's Day class parties. There the colorful boxes are filled with candy treats and the all-important Valentine's cards from classmates. While kids love the parties, some of the fun comes in decorating Valentine boxes in their own unique way.

Step 1

Cover your box in the crepe paper, foil or other decorative covering, and glue it in place.

Step 2

Attach lace or heart cutouts with glue or tape.

Step 3

Draw hearts and designs on the box with colored markers.

Step 4

Cut a slit in the lid big enough to allow the Valentine's your child receives to pass through.

Step 5

Repeat the decorating process on the lid.

Tips and Warnings

  • Make sure any glue used is nontoxic. Make sure the parts used are not so small that they pose a choking hazard for younger children. Use approved child safety scissors.
