Snow-Tex by Decoart is a craft supply that allows you to add a little something special to your craft projects. It adds texture and shine and gives the appearance of snow. It is a useful product if you want to make snowman decorations with a more realistic appearance. With a little bit of Snow-Tex, some beads, and a Styrofoam ball you can easily and inexpensively make your own snowman ornament.
Use a paint brush to apply Snow-Tex by Decoart to a 2 inch Styrofoam ball. To make the application easier, insert a wooden skewer through the ball to hold it steady. Thoroughly cover the ball with the Snow-Tex.
Remove the skewer. Apply a small amount of craft glue into the hole the skewer made. Cut a six inch length of gold thread using scissors. Fold it in half. Insert the cut ends of the thread into the hole to create the ornament holder. This end will be up.
Cut or pull the green end of a miniature craft carrot off and discard it. You can use a foam or a wooden carrot, whichever you prefer. They can be found a craft stores. Press the wide end of the carrot into the ball. Remove the carrot. Add a bit of craft glue in the depression the carrot made and then reinsert it for the snowman's nose.
Press two black 6 millimeter beads into the ball above the carrot to create the snowman's eyes. Remove the beads and add a bit of craft glue in the depressions the beads made and then reinsert the beads.
Create the snowman's mouth in the same manner you created its eyes. This time use three beads that are 3 millimeters in size. They should be located underneath the carrot nose in a smile formation.
Use a small paint brush and pale pink acrylic paint to paint two pink circles on either side of the carrot nose. These will be your snowman's cheeks. They should be about a 1/4 inch each.
Cut a piece of felt using craft scissors into a 3-1/2 by 10 inch rectangle. The color is up to you. This will be your snowman's hat
Change your sewing machine settings so that it is set for a large zig-zag with a long stitch. Thread your machine with a thread that matches your felt. Lay a piece of cotton crochet thread along one of the long sides of the piece of felt. Place your fabric and crochet thread on your sewing machine, with the crochet thread resting in between the two feet on the presser foot of your machine. Sew along the entire length of felt. Back track over the end of the stitch to finish it.
Remove the felt from the sewing machine. Hold one corner of the felt where the crochet thread is. Hold the crochet thread in your other hand. Press the felt down thread. This will gather up your fabric. Tie the two ends of the crochet thread to each other to secure it. Use craft glue to adhere the two short sides together.
Place the hat on your snowman's head. Press the ends of the gold thread through the top of the hat. Turn back the edge of the hat to create a hat brim. Use craft glue to attach the hat to the snowman's head. Glue a three-quarter inch white pom-pom to the top of the hat to finish it.
Allow all the glue to dry before hanging your snowman on your Christmas tree.
