How Will Water Color Affect a Plant's Color?

Particles in the water can change a plant's color. Most are harmless and will not affect the growth of a plant. An exception is water that may have a foul smell, which may be an indication of methane gas. Food coloring in water can slightly change the color of the plant, especially if it has white flowers.
