Golden Baked Apples with Banana Filling

6 large Golden Delicious apples
1 large banana
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. chopped dates OR maraschino cherries
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
2 Tbsp. sugar
Dash salt
1 cup water
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 lemon, sliced

  1. Core apples and pare 1 inch down from top. Place in shallow baking dish.
  2. Peel and dice bananas. Sprinkle with lemon juice.
  3. Combine bananas with dated or caraschino cherries, walnuts, sugar and salt. Spoon into centers of apples.
  4. In a saucepan combine water, light corn syrup and lemon slices. Boil 5 minutes. Pore over apples.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F. 30-40 minutes or until apples are tender; baste frequently with syrup
