Acaricide, which is a carbamate class pesticide, is safe to apply to your lawn to prevent ticks. Apply a pesticide only as a last resort and consider hiring a pest control professional to do it. Removing plants from your yard that attract deer and erecting fences to keep deer out are additional safe ways to control ticks in the lawn.
