How fast do poplar trees grow in eastern Ontario?

Poplar is an extremely fast-growing tree, with an average growth of 5 to 8 feet a year in eastern Ontario. This tree has metallic green leaves and a broad umbrella. Normally the poplar is planted for fast shade or firewood. The tree tolerates the cold winters well and thrives in the mild summers of eastern Ontario.
