Does Acidity in Soil Affect the Growth?

Very acid soils (pH 4.0 to 5.0) may contain high amounts of aluminum, iron or manganese, which are toxic to some plants. Very acid soils also inhibit the bacteria that breaks down organic matter and results in the tie-up of nitrogen and other nutrients.
